God’s gift of wisdom helps us navigate life.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
James 1:5 New Living Translation

I’ve always been intrigued by this verse. God invites me to ask Him for wisdom and promises to give it generously, so I began praying for it years ago.

I am not sure what I expected. There were no bells, dramatic signs, or angels appearing from heaven. I simply kept asking. At first, I did not recognize any effect wisdom had other than an occasional insight beyond my own understanding. Only later, looking back, could I see His wisdom at work.

Wisdom is mentioned around 215 times throughout the Old and New Testaments. It is more than knowledge or intelligence. Biblical wisdom helps us apply God’s truth, make sound decisions, and walk faithfully through a complicated world. It can help prevent us from making poor choices and provides guidance to choose what to do in uncertain situations. It is especially precious when we face circumstances we cannot change or escape. God doesn’t merely give wisdom for earthly needs, but it shapes our thoughts and helps us see circumstances from His perspective.

Wisdom is one of God’s generous gifts. If you need direction today, ask God for wisdom and do not give up. Read the Scripture verses that reference wisdom. His promise to freely give you wisdom is true. It will help you see each situation through His wise eyes.

Our faithful God gives us a lot of tools to be able to navigate this life on earth and wisdom is one of the best!
