Reflecting Glory
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10, English Standard Version
I gazed at this web the other day on our deck in admiration. Though I’m not the biggest fan of spiders, I certainly appreciate their craft. Beautifully spun. Expertly designed. They produce liquid silk in order to create their webs; and have a specific system, ensuring a sturdy frame first. Fascinating.
The Creator of all things – visible and invisible – is, for lack of a better term, incredible. When you think about His creation and all the fine details He so intentionally included, it’s breathtaking. Beyond the landscapes, stars, sun and creatures, even more precious to Him: you and me – made in His image.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139: 13-14. English Standard Version
I love this declaration from David here, praising God for the way He created Him. He acknowledges throughout the Psalms that very deep and intimate relationship with our Creator. He knows us on a level we can’t comprehend. Before we were born, He had plans for how we would impact His earth and the opportunities He prearranged. Much like the spider, we are given what we need from the Author and Perfecter of our life and faith. He provides for us and sustains us. Beyond that, we are each given spiritual gifts so that we might serve one another. We’ve been set apart for this purpose — as image bearers, God’s great masterpiece.
