The Beauty of the Body.

“For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit .”
This window is in the church directly catercorner from Holy Cross. It’s my favorite visual of the body of Christ, a mosaic of people, the light from outside illuminating its many colors, and the cross of Christ in the center.
“But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. “
1 Corinthians 12:12, 13, 18 New American Standard Version
Each piece, its own shape and color, is placed carefully into the whole by the Artist. It’s a thing of beauty.
What does the Spirit stir up in you as you read these verses and ponder the image?
Maybe your mind turns to another member of the church and you question why The Artist placed them so close to you, or why God had to make that color at all.
Maybe you have questions about where you fit into the puzzle and have a longing to know your gifts and feel a sense of belonging.
Maybe you know your place and are inspired to let the Spirit shine more brightly through you putting your gift to greater use for the benefit of the whole.
Maybe you sense an invitation to an “art appreciation class” and feel drawn to ponder and praise the Artist for His work.
Whatever you hear, take some time to talk to your Creator about it.
Head of the Church, we praise You for the beauty of Your Body. You have harmonized diversity through the cross and the baptism of Your Spirit. May we drink deeply of the Spirit and be persistent in guarding our unity, pursuing peace and serving one another humbly. Shine through us, illuminating Your love to the world that they may also long to have a place in Your Body. Amen.
