The changing seasons are a remarkable time. In spring, the trees and flowers are blooming, but how do they know when to bloom? Jesus shows us when he was here that creation is at His mercy.

“And seeing in the distance a fig tree [covered] with leaves, He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come. And He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. And His disciples were listening [to what He said].

“In the morning, when they were passing along, they noticed that the fig tree was withered [completely] away to its roots.”
Mark 11:20 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

Nature is an example of how God’s voice and commands work. The blooming and dying of a plant are subject to His voice. It’s been implanted in the cells of nature since the creation of the Garden of Eden.

If nature is at the mercy of God’s voice, what about us? We can run from Him for only so long. Our mortality on this Earth is inevitable. When Adam and Eve attempted to hide from God in the garden, He never lost sight of them. We can’t outrun God or hide from Him. He is in the cells of our bodies, He created our brains, heart, organs. He knows every move we make, every thought we’ve had. He knows what we do in secret. We are His greatest creation.

When God created Adam from the dirt, which God also created, that was our ‘stamp’ that He would know everything about us. No matter our belief system, we can’t get away from His eyes, ears and voice. He is the original Big Brother.

For some this idea is the scariest thing they have ever heard. I know it was for me. But as I’ve gotten to know God deeper, it’s reassuring that He already knows my sin; I can’t hide it from Him. It causes a quicker confession which leads to freedom. I know God will never leave me even though He knows the darkness I’m capable of.
