Happy Mud Season!

Waiting for Easter

Mud season is just around the corner. It’s that time of year when people who live in the mountains of Colorado leave town to avoid the mud. They move to these high-altitude towns for summer activities and winter skiing. There is very little redeeming value to mud season, that season when the snow begins melting and everywhere you look there is saturated soil.

Mud season is about waiting; waiting for the land to dry, waiting to trek the high mountain trails, waiting for amazing summer sunsets.

Lent is about waiting. The word, Lent, is not a complicated word. It simply means springtime, which in the mountains means mud season.

We start the Lenten season with a bang and are determined to follow with Jesus on his journey to the cross. Yet a couple of weeks into Lent and we wish that we were already at Easter. How long can we talk about our need for Jesus? How long can we walk with Jesus to the cross? How long can we endure the “mud”?

As these chairs wait to be released for summer, we wait to sing the songs of victory. This waiting is an important part of our journey.

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”
Psalm 27:14 English Standard Version
