Send Out the Workers!

“The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.
Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38
The field of wheat stretches across the landscape. The heads are full, the grain is ripe and heavy, the harvest bountiful. If only workers would come to gather the grain!
The problem with this harvest is not that there is no grain to gather. The problem with this harvest is that there are so few workers to gather the grain.
Our Lord Jesus does not tell His disciples to pray for a harvest of souls. He does not tell them to pray that the Holy Spirit would work repentance and faith upon unbelievers’ hearts. He does not tell them to pray that many would seek salvation in His name. No, there are many who are ready to be gathered into His kingdom. There are many who are “ripe” for the gathering into His kingdom. Many hearts, many souls are ready to be gathered in.
What our Lord Jesus asks you and I to pray for are laborers for the harvest, for many who would hear the call to go into the harvest of souls to gather them to the Lord. He calls you to pray for workers in the harvest.
Is He calling you? Does He call you into the harvest? Is Jesus calling you to be His workers in the harvest of souls? For the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few….
How shall you answer? Shall you answer His call, “Here am I, send me?” For the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray for workers in the harvest…
Lord Jesus, I pray that you would send many laborers, many workers into the harvest of souls. May many hear your call to go and gather in those waiting to come into Your kingdom. And if you are calling me this day, send your Holy Spirit to give me courage to say, “Here am I, send me.” Amen.
