“The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 (New International Version)

There’s something unsettling about stepping into the unknown. A new job, a diagnosis, a move, a loss—we often want clarity before commitment, answers before action. But life doesn’t always offer that. More often, we’re called to walk forward with limited visibility and total trust. When Moses spoke the words of Deuteronomy 31:8 to Joshua, Israel was preparing to cross into the Promised Land without Moses, their long-time leader. Change was coming, and the road ahead was full of giants, battles, and uncertainty.

But Moses reminded them—and reminds us—of something essential: “The Lord Himself goes before you.”

God doesn’t just send us into the unknown. He leads us through it. He walks ahead of us into tomorrow, preparing the path we haven’t seen. He is already in the interview room, the hospital hallway, the hard conversation, the place we fear most. And not only does He go before us—He also goes with us. This is the promise that steadies us when we feel unqualified, anxious, or overwhelmed. We don’t have to summon strength from within or figure everything out in advance. God’s presence is our provision. Fear and discouragement are natural human responses to the unknown—but they are not the final word for those who trust in the Lord. When we remember who walks ahead of us, our fear shrinks. When we remember who walks beside us, our courage grows.

Whatever you’re facing today—whether it’s a decision, a season of change, or something you didn’t choose—take heart: You are not alone, and you are not walking blind. The same God who faithfully led Israel is still leading His people today.

God, thank You for going before me into every tomorrow. Help me trust Your presence more than my fear. Lead me, walk with me, and give me peace in the unknown. Amen.
