“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
Hebrews 13: 5-6 English Standard Version
While walking through Garden of the Gods Park, I realized something that for some reason I never had before. Up high, on the steep walls of the sandstone, there are trees growing off the sides of the rocks. I can’t remember what the information board said as to how the seeds got there, but I do know that the trees are able to cling to the rocks and grow. The roots of the trees run deep into the sandstone, meaning they aren’t falling off of those rocks any time soon.
Some days I feel as if I have the view from that tree up on the rock, except I don’t always feel the assurance the tree has that I’m not going to come toppling to the ground. There are times in our lives where we feel that we are going to go into a free fall. As Christians, we should be even more assured of our security in God than the tree has with its’ roots deep in the rock. This does not mean that bad times don’t fall on us Christians, but it does mean that no matter where we are in life, no matter how insurmountable the situation may seem, God is not letting go of you. He will not let you fall from his protection.
Look throughout the Bible and you will see the phrase “I will never leave you nor forsake you” time and time again. God is trustworthy, and he certainly does not lie. Place your confidence not in yourself, or other people, but in the one sure foundation Jesus Christ. When it seems like you are destined to fall, God won’t let go. That is His promise to you, so don’t let go yourself. Cling to Him.
