“The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.”

2 Peter 3:9 English Standard Version

“He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.”

1 John 2:2 English Standard Version

I was listening to my three-year-old play by himself in the front room singing, “he’s got the whole world in his hands…” Out of the mouth of babes comes the most important truth… God is in control of the whole world. And through his sacrificial and amazing power, he desires to bring that whole world to himself. He desires all to be saved, to be in a relationship with him.

Even my three-year-old knows this good news, but it is so easy to turn away from it. We know that God is offering us a relationship with him, but it is so easy to get caught up in the cares of this world or the worries of our hearts. Will I be able to provide for my family? Will I be able to always keep my children safe? Will I face any physical hardship in my health? Or even questions of other people… Did Jesus really die for that person? Is my family member or friend ever going to know and love Jesus?

These types of questions attack us daily. We have two choices, try to handle them ourselves and get lost in anger and despair, or entrust all of these to our Lord and Savior. God knows our sins and invites us into his family anyway. He knows our fears and shows us what true comfort looks like. He’s got the whole world in his hands.
