Nothing is hidden from God.

And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 4:8 English Standard Version
The padlocks on the gray lockers caught my artist’s eye. Their pretty colors looked a bit like Christmas ornaments, and each color, or lack of color, helped their owners find them among the dozens of anonymous lockers.
I wondered, what was inside each locker? The colorful lock serves a purpose, to hide the locker’s contents from potential thieves. They also hide a person’s possessions from curious eyes.
Our sins are like the contents of the locker. They remain in a dark place, away from prying eyes. We dress them up at times, with pretty fobs, in an attempt to disguise what they really are.
Nothing, however, is hidden from God.
When Adam and Eve sinned they attempted to hide their bodies from God with leaves, but God knew that they were going to sin before it happened, and that they had sinned. He also knew the means of grace by which they’d be forgiven, the cross and Jesus Christ.
Who can discern his errors?
Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
Psalm 19:12 ESV
God doesn’t say, “When you are righteous, then I’ll forgive you.” When you ask God to forgive all of your sins, he does. He forgives us for the sins behind the pretty fobs, and he also forgives us for the sins we don’t know we’ve committed. His grace is what we need to be alive. We can be a new creation every day!
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Revelation 22:5 ESV
Dear Lord, thank you for loving us in spite of ourselves, and for removing our guilt by the Cross. Amen.

As I was kayaking I paused on a peaceful channel on our lake to read your blog, dear friend. Thank you for reminding me of the power of forgiveness- both for myself as well as for those who I need to forgive. Christ has forgiven ALL of us immediately with no string attached.
