“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23
Daffodils remind me that God keeps His promises. Every dreary February, in Oregon, I keep up my spirits by saying to myself, “Spring will soon be here.” As the cold wind blows, and the rain fills each day with overcast thoughts, I comfort myself with those words, “Spring will soon be here.”
Then it happens. On one of our daily walks there they stand, their yellow heads defying winter, and proclaiming, “Spring is here!” Daffodils remind me that God keeps His promises, and that God is faithful. As surely as the seasons come, as surely as flowers bloom, so God keeps His promises to His people.
Yes, there will be tough times…times of grief, and pain, times of doubt, and weakness, as well as long dreary wintry times of grayness. However God’s promises are sure, and just as in the fullness of time God sent His own Son to redeem the world, so in the fullness of God’s timing God will deliver you from every trial.
God’s Word is sure, because God kept His promise by sending our Lord Jesus to save you from sin, and every evil, so you can trust Him for your salvation, for eternal life, for daily bread, and for deliverance from evil. No matter how dark the night, no matter how great the storm, no matter how long the winter…the Lord will not fail you.
“Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
Thou changest not: Thy compassions they fail not;
As Thou has been, Thou forever wilt be.”
In the midst of winter, O Lord, remind me of Your daffodils. Amen.
