Dwelling with God

We all long for home. We long for the warmth of familiar faces and the comfort of belonging. We feel it most in this season. We desire time with those we love, spent around the Christmas tree and at the family table. We have moments of peace, joy, and love; yet the more God shapes us, the more we sense that we are not home yet.

This Christmas, may you know the peace of God’s presence: the warmth of His face shining upon you. As we adore the Christ-child, may we be in awe that the heavenly, glorious presence of God has come near to us. In Jesus, the promise of the ancient blessing is fulfilled:

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

– Numbers 22:24-26

Your sin, your heartache, your part in this broken world don’t define you. God’s face shines on us now. Because of Jesus, God looks on you with favor, and one day you will be fully at home with Him. The presence of God is now in “Immanuel”; at the end of the story God’s presence makes the world new, a home with us forever. So no matter how far we roam, we live in hope for home, sweet home.

Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.”

Revelation 21:3, English Standard Version
