Do you ever feel homesick? Maybe you live far away from where you grew up, and don’t get to visit often anymore. Maybe you still live where you grew up, but miss your childhood home or the way things used to be. I live a few hours away from where I grew up, and I get homesick every now and again.

As believers, we are going to be homesick every day for the rest of our lives here on earth, homesick for a place we have not seen in its entirety yet. We are citizens of heaven, and sojourners here on earth. We are eagerly awaiting for Christ to return for us, that he may bring us into the place that he has been preparing, as John 14:2 tells us.

Who among us believers are really satisfied with just hanging out here on earth? Our Father in heaven, who with the Son and the Holy Spirit has saved us from sin, death, and the devil, has a place for us to live out eternity that is free from the bondage that we live with here on earth. It’s paradise! Who would not be excited about that? We know that we face trials, and that this life brings about a lot of pain. This should lead us all the more to anticipate the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with eagerness and steadfastness. We do not know when that will be, but we know he is coming back, and it will be glorious.

Recently I listened to a speaker in the chapel where I work, Levi Lusko. He said that every morning, when we wake up, we should “be on our tiptoes” throughout the day, eager to see all that the Lord is doing. We look forward to the things we cannot see, and what we see all around us is distorted reality, which will all be set right again when Christ returns and takes us home.
