I Am With the Big Guy

By Pastor Steve Nickodemus

A Light Burden

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:29-30 English Standard Version

Henry wanted to help me load up firewood.  Henry is only two, but he wanted to help Grandpa.  He couldn’t handle the big pieces, but he was happy to load the small pieces of wood.

Jesus invites us to partner with him in these verses.  He knows that we can’t handle the heavy burden of sin and suffering in this world.  So he invites you and me to be yoked with him, to let him handle the heavy, hard stuff of our life.  Jesus went to the cross and took the sin of the world upon himself.  He did what we could never do, allow himself to be sacrificed to pay for our sin.

And now Jesus invites you and me to let him do the heavy lifting in our everyday lives.  When I feel struck down and discouraged, attacked by the devil and feeling all alone, I remember that I am not alone.  I am with the Big Guy.  In the name and presence of Jesus, by the power of his Word and Spirit, I find rest for my soul and forgiveness and peace in his redeeming love.

Are you tired of trying to go it on your own?  Come to Jesus, he  will carry your burdens and give you rest for your soul!  In our weakness we find rest in his strength!  For you are with the Big Guy!  Amen!

“How sweet the name of Jesus sounds In a believer’s ear!
It soothes our sorrows, heals our wounds, and drives away our fear.”
