If you have a small child, or a dog, chances are you know the wonderful game of “In or Out”! Our dog, Athena, likes to take plush toys and hide them in the backyard. She often hides them poorly. But that doesn’t stop her from wanting out. Then, back in. Again, back out. Well, you get the idea.

Sometimes her wanting in and out doesn’t really phase me, I am just going about the day. But other times, when I am focusing on a task or enjoying a movie or a meal, I am not terribly happy about “In or Out”.

In James 1:5-8, we read,

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways”.
English Standard Version

Maybe you struggle with indecision or at least you worry about the choices you have made. That is something I also have battled and I believe it is part of the human experience. Two of the wonderful gifts that God has given to us is the gift of wisdom and the gift of faith. James reminds us that God is the certainty in an unstable world.

There are often pretty big choices and decisions that we need to make, that impact life, family and even where and how we will live. Marriage, parenting, employment and relationships can be a tangled mess if we are unsure of the way ahead.

Have confidence that God does not tire of us, even when we are indecisive. His love and grace welcomes us to find strength and direction in Him. At the end of the day, He wants us to know that we are safely in His presence and for us to feel secure in His care. Rejoice that we have such a loving and caring God that gives us life, forgiveness and salvation through Jesus!

I will finish this devotion here, it appears I have a dog that wants to come back inside.
