In 2023, a small farming community in California faced one of the driest years on record, with prolonged drought threatening crops and livelihoods. Just when hope was dwindling, a welcomed storm system arrived, bringing much-needed rain to the parched land.

The rain fell steadily for days, reviving the soil, nourishing crops, and restoring hope to farmers and residents alike. The community came together to celebrate the downpour, which symbolized resilience and renewal. Local farmers expressed how the rain was a gift, not just for their fields, but for their spirits, reminding everyone that even in the toughest times, nature’s timing can bring new beginnings.

In Isaiah 55, we read,

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it”.
English Standard Version

You may be going through a dry spell, a season where you are waiting for a change, for life giving blessings. It is amazing how quickly life circumstances can change. Yet God reminds us in this passage from Isaiah that His word, which is a life giving blessing, will accomplish His purpose and not return to Him empty.

I have had moments in my life where I was praying for rain, so to speak. Yet, it didn’t come. And then one day, when I wasn’t expecting any change, the sky opened up and the rain came down. It reminded me that God does hear and He does answer, in His way and in His time. Jesus is our Lord and Savior, He is the ultimate answer for our problems, our seasons of want. He satisfies our need for love, forgiveness and salvation!

Recently I had the opportunity to spend a relaxing day with some friends. We were comfortable outside just talking and enjoying the sun. But then a storm moved in and boy did we get soaked! We didn’t have any indoor place to flee to that was close, so we just got drenched. But it made me mindful of all those dry seasons and that there are seasons of plenty. Hang in there, God has a plan for you!
