I Will Never Forget…

“And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will not certainly lose his reward.”
Matthew 10:42
It’s the little things about Dad that I remember. Things like the way he led the family table prayer (reverently), or the way that he cleaned his plate (thoroughly), or the particular kind of salad dressing that he liked best (Italian). These little things, and many others, were a matter of habit to him, things that he did without any deep thought. They were simply part of who he was.
Jesus is talking about such a thing in today’s Bible verse. Giving a cup of cold water to a child seems a small, routine, sort of thing to do, but it is just this sort of small, kind, act that God says He remembers. It’s the kind of thing that you do because you are a follower of Christ.
You and I may never die a heroic death for our faith like Stephen, or lead the people of God out of Egypt like Moses, but because you follow Jesus, because you trust in Him for your salvation, you will naturally do many things that no one will record in Scripture or put on TV. However, your heavenly Father notices and remembers.
Day in, and day out, we pray, we care, we give, we listen, and we love in many small ways just because God has made us one of His. Though the world may not remember us, or what we do, the Lord notices and remembers.
Lord, continue to grant me strength and faith each day to do the small things that reflect Your love in my life. Thank you that care about all the little things in my life, and that in Your mercy You never forget me. Amen.
