I have lived in three countries and several different states in the course of my life, eight to be exact! That doesn’t count living in different cities or places in those states. I wonder how many different places you have lived?
In Psalm 121:5-8, we read,
”The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore.”
English Standard Version
I know that as I have moved, it hasn’t always been easy. Finding new friends, finding a place to live, a place to work, a place to worship. Learning how to get around and figuring out the lay of the land can be tricky. Maybe you have had trouble with moving too!
The good news that we have is that God is with us through the chances and changes of life, He is with us as we make unexpected or planned moves. Psalm 121 is a great comfort to know that wherever life takes us that God also goes with us. The Psalm also emphasizes God’s protection for His people, no matter where we may go.
I have lived in the same place now for 6 years, which has been great! As I reflect on my many moves, there is something special about thanking God for stability and being in one spot. Sometimes I wonder how many more moves I have left before the Lord calls me home.
I started off in Texas and for some reason, I think I may end up in Texas before it is all said and done. Have you given much thought to where God may be calling you next?
Our Lord Jesus knows something about this as well. In Matthew 8:20, He says,
“Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
ESV
Our Lord Jesus went everywhere, and never seemed to have a home. He did that FOR us, so that we WOULD have a true home, a heavenly home for eternity. Thanks be to God that Jesus is our Savior who rescues us from sin and death. I pray that no matter where you live, or if a move is on the horizon, that you know and trust that God goes with you!
