The Joy of the Lord

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 English Standard Version

God sent Jesus to the world to bring eternal life to anyone who believes in Him. Along with the promise of eternal life, Jesus also came bearing joy to the Earth.

“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
1 Peter 1:8-9 English Standard Version

Jesus does not only bring joy, he is joy. He died and lives joyfully knowing that all that He did, does and will do is necessary for us.

“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:2 English Standard Version

How does that joy transfer to us? Through the Holy Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22-23 English Standard Version

Because Jesus, through His love for us, came to the Earth, died and was resurrected, the Holy Spirit came and filled us. This is how we can have the joy of the Lord now and forever.

During Christmas, find some time in the midst of the busyness to be alone with God. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, His joy, so you can spread joy to everyone you encounter. It’s the overflow of joy in us that others need desperately. Merry Christmas!
