“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
Matthew 24:42 New International Version

My wife, Margaret, was sick and tired of the neighborhood blue jay stealing our newly planted pea seeds in our garden.  Her solution was to post an ever present guard at the edge of our raised beds, diligently keeping watch over our garden day and night!  And sure enough, our “guard” did his job.  The pea plants are flourishing!

Our Lord Jesus warns you and me to “keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”  There are many enemies of our souls, waiting to rob us of our faith.  The devil and all his evil angels tempt us.  The world entices us away from Jesus.  Our own sinful nature leads us astray.

But do not be afraid!  The Holy Spirit is constantly on guard watching over our hearts.  Our Lord Jesus prays for us constantly.  God’s Word stands like a beacon in the darkness of this world, guiding us away from danger.

Because we are not left alone, we are not afraid.  The Lord is with us and strengthens our weak hands and trembling knees.   He gives us courage to face the attacks of the evil one.  And in the midst of a troubled and fearful world, our faith is in Him.

The Lord Jesus is with us.  The victorious Lord is on our side and watches day and night.  He will return soon and take His people home.  Until that day, keep watch and be alert!  The Lord does not slumber nor sleep and He watches over you!
