“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Philippians 4:8 New Living Translation
Every day we see bad news in all forms of media. 2025 began with disheartening events that were reported on the main pages of newspapers, social media and on television. Political and personal rhetoric and judgmental posts can discourage our souls. It can move us to want to hibernate the year away.
But what if we allow it to motivate us to create our own headlines for the year? Instead of accepting the world around us through the lens of newspapers or social media headlines, which are often negative and reflect sin in the world, we can make our own headlines. We can be people who show kindness and love, and encourage others to do the same.
It might feel difficult to shut out the noise of the negative, but God has promised that He will help us envision what is true, noble and admirable in life. We can count on His words that we will see the goodness of the Lord while we are living on this earth. Having this hope will change the headlines in our world and help us focus on God’s faithfulness to us.
“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living.”
Psalm 27:13 New Living Translation
Pray that God will help you see His goodness in the world around you. Ask Him to provide ways for you to help create positive headlines in someone else’s life today, directing them to the love and hope found in Christ. Go out and create some inspiring headlines!
