“Be my rock of refuge, to which I can always go….”
Psalm 71:3a New International Version
Above the surging waters the marine birds sit, safe and secure, their feet firmly upon the rock. They are unafraid of the waves around them, for they know their refuge is sure.
How does the new year look for you? Tempestuous? Stormy? Dark and treacherous? Riddled with trouble and grief and insecurity? Unsure and unsteady?
In the midst of an insecure and stormy world and an even less secure future, put your feet upon the Rock. Where you are weak or ill or feeling puny, put your trust in our Rock and Redeemer, in the One who is sure and immovable. Where others have abandoned or betrayed you, put your hope in the Way, the Truth, the Life, our very Refuge in times of trouble.
The Lord can be counted upon in an insecure world. In Him you can rest unafraid for what is ahead. His promises are sure and He promises to never leave you. You can count upon the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The One who willingly gave Himself for you upon the cross will always come when you call. Jesus Christ is our Refuge and our Strength, our Rock and our Redeemer. You can stand firm upon Him!
“In you, Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame. In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me; turn your ear to me and save me.” (Psalm 71:1-2) Amen and Amen!
