The Mystery of God Becoming Human

Advent season is full of familiarity. We know that Jesus came to Earth, that we celebrate His birth and why He had to come, but the mystery of God is what keeps us coming back for more. Some mysteries will be revealed while others will remain mysteries.

“It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out.”
Proverbs 25:2

Who doesn’t love a good mystery? There are great books written with the anticipation of revealing a mystery in the conclusion.

Mystery is in the heart of God. God’s very nature is more than we can rationalize. He created our brains and intelligence. How would we ever think we could reduce Him to something completely understood?

As we get closer to Him and our relationship continues to emerge, we can expect to know Him in a deeper way. One of the interesting revelations I’ve personally had is that the more I get to know God, the more ubiquitous He becomes. God is infinite and He reveals more of Himself as we continue to intertwine with Him. What’s strange is the more you know about God, the more you realize you’ll never get to the end.

Some people call this time of year a magical season, but I wonder if the mystery is just more obvious this time of year. The Creator of the universe embodies Himself in a human figure to walk just like us. He bled, breathed, ate, and required all the necessities to survive that all human bodies demand.

The mystical night of God becoming human and coming to Earth is imprinted in our DNA. Our mind, body and soul have a way of ‘knowing’ the elements of heaven that we belong to and we become more sensitive to the One who knows us more intimately than anyone.

“Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.”
Luke 12:7

Enjoy the mystery of the season. Don’t try to figure it out, mainly because it’s impossible. Just get to know the One who loves you most.
