You Are Seen
“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray?”
Matthew 18:12, English Standard Version
When we had our new baby five months ago, I was expecting some hardships on my older two kids. They wouldn’t be getting the same amount of attention and would have some extra responsibilities put on them, and I wanted to be very aware of that. You know who I forgot to think of? The dog.
Really, the dog was the baby before our baby was born, and he is especially attached to me. He sleeps on me every night. He follows me everywhere I go in the house. But now that the human baby is here, I have had to push him away so many times that he has started to act out. He’s doing things he never did before the baby, like getting into the trash can and trying to sneak out of the back yard.
I’m trying to be more conscientious about giving the dog some attention, and really, I don’t blame him. Don’t we all feel that way sometimes, like we’re being pushed aside, and not noticed?
Fortunately, we have a God who doesn’t push us aside. No matter what happens in our lives, God knows us and sees us. He knitted us together in our mother’s womb; He knows every hair on our head. And even if we’re one among 100? He will always find us. I hope we can all remember today to try to see and notice one another, but also to remember that we are seen, and we are loved by the creator of the universe!
