On August 21st millions of people viewed the Great American Solar Eclipse. Many photos were taken of the eclipse itself, but in this photo there is an amazing collection of crescents, formed by the shadows cast on the ground, from sunlight filtering through tree leaves. The crescents lasted until the actual eclipse. They returned, but the shadows shifted, and the crescents faced the other way, as the moon slowly pulled away from the sun. Soon the eclipse was over and the shadows shifted again.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
James 1:17 New International Version
God gave you every single good thing in your life. God doesn’t change when your circumstances change. He doesn’t go from being a good God to a bad God when you face trials or troubles. At times, shadows may fall on you, but He is ever, and always, light. If you turn away from Him, you go only deeper into shadow. Turning from God in order to escape hardship is as futile as hiding from the sun in an effort to escape darkness.
When faced with struggles seek God, who can make all things new. He is still the source of all the good in your life. He never changes like shadows do during an eclipse. He is the true source of light. His love for you doesn’t change, it is always there for eternity.
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1 & 2 New International Version
God is the source of what is good in your life now, and what will be good in the future. Rest in His almighty shadow and know that His love will never be eclipsed for you, not by the sun, the moon, or the dark shadows of this world.
