“The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.”
1 Timothy 1:15 English Standard Version

If it wasn’t for a college classmate who told me what snipe hunting was, I would still be holding a bag and calling for snipe in some remote field near Portland, Oregon. I am the perfect target for a practical joke. Sometime today, I will peruse my news feed, read an article that is complete fiction, believe that it is true, and text my family only to receive laughing emojis in return.

I don’t like April Fool’s Day!

I hope to make it through today without someone playing a joke on me, especially my dentist with whom I will pay a visit later this afternoon (I should have rescheduled). Admitting this is NOT an invitation to try to pull a joke on me today.

April Fool’s Day strikes a chord with us in a world where we are on guard against scams and lies. Like many people, I received the scam saying that I had tolls I needed to pay (and no, I didn’t click on the link). People are making millions of dollars scamming others, fooling people, causing them to believe that either they or someone they love is in danger.

We might even feel that God is scamming us. Satan’s voice isn’t far from our ears, “Did God really say?” Is his word really true?

YES!!! God’s word is true. When Paul wrote to Timothy that Christ came into to the world to save sinners, he meant it. God will not scam you. The proof is in the cross and the empty tomb. You are a forgiven child of your heavenly Father, a Father who lays his hands of forgiveness on your shoulders and pulls you into his bosom.

God’s word of grace is trustworthy. You can count on it!
