Noise, Noise, Noise

Don’t let life’s noise drown out God’s precious voice.

“I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying,
for he speaks peace to his faithful people.
But let them not return to their foolish ways.”

Psalm 85:8 New Living Translation

Over the holidays, I watched one of my favorite animated Christmas shows, Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In the story, the Grinch did not like the Who’s, residents of Whoville, singing their favorite Christmas song as they gathered around their enormous community tree. He expressed that he just couldn’t stand all the noise, noise, noise, noise, noise.

There are times when we long to hear from God, but there is so much noise in our head that it’s hard to focus on His word and His presence in our hearts. We struggle with our worries, our to-do lists, our fears and our preoccupation with earthly problems. We know deep inside that when we listen to God and Him alone our hearts are filled with peace, yet we struggle to block out the noise.

It is hard to hear God when there is so many consuming thoughts blocking out His voice. But God’s word is louder than anything or any noise in your head. Take a moment to pray for a quiet heart.

Heavenly Father,
There is so much noise in my head that prevents me from truly hearing Your message of love. I struggle to listen to what You might be saying to me through Your Holy Word or in my prayers. Please help block out that noise and graciously grant me a clear and focused mind on You and any wisdom You have for me. Help me to spend time away from my worries and problems and just sit in stillness with You, because I know that You long to spend time with me. It’s in Your presence that I’ll find true peace.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
