For he says, ‘In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”
2 Corinthians 6:2 English Standard Version

I tend to be a nostalgic person. I get very emotional looking back on fond memories. September 3 is a day I love because it’s the day my husband first asked me to be his girlfriend, back when we were in high school. I sent this picture to him just the other day: it’s the theme park we were at when I first realized I liked him as more than just a friend.

I get caught up in this sort of thing all the time. And as I’ve written before, I think it can be great to look backward because it really shows us how God has filled our lives with blessings, and can encourage gratitude. But I also get sad when I look back too. I recently cleaned out a lot of girl baby clothes that I had saved because I’m having a baby that is a boy, and we won’t need them. While seeing the clothes gave me happy memories, it also made me sad when it was time to give them away. That happy time was here but now it’s gone, and it’s hard to let it go.

I love this passage in Corinthians that I found because it reminds me that God’s love is something I don’t need to have nostalgia for. He didn’t love me in the past. His love is permanent and His salvation is for NOW, perpetually. Time is a funny thing and we as humans would have a hard time perceiving life without it, but the love of God transcends time. It is the same past, present, and future. So we can look back with fondness, enjoy it in the present, and look to the future with hope.  Amen!
