Not What You Were Expecting

With Christ, expect the unexpected!

“As they approached the Temple, a man lame from birth was being carried in. Each day he was put beside the Temple gate, the one called the Beautiful Gate, so he could beg from the people going into the Temple. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for some money. Peter and John looked at him intently, and Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money. But Peter said, ‘I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk!’”
Acts 3:2-6 New Living Translation

If you wander down a store aisle looking for a snack, you might pick up a bag of chips, but you probably were not expecting to see this—a bag of cheddar flavored chips made from cricket flour!

None of us predicted the events of 2020. I’m guessing that for most of us, 2021 hasn’t been what we anticipated or hoped for either. We might be like the lame man, expecting the same thing he came to the gate for day in and day out—coins for daily survival. But one day He met Jesus through Peter and John, and his preconceived ideas of how his day would go were shattered. Jesus healed him of his paralysis! What’s more, the man recognized that it was Jesus who healed him, and Scripture says he began walking, leaping and praising God.

With faith in Christ, you can be confident in expecting the unexpected from the One who surprises you with His expressions of love, answers to prayer and glimpses of His heavenly nature. Wait expectantly for Him every day. As you wait, never doubt that He will do far more than all you ask or imagine of Him.
