Seen and Unseen

“…as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18 English Standard Version
I recently took a little hike on a new-ish trail that is near my house. It’s such a pretty area, and interesting because of the old abandoned buildings that you walk by. I shot a picture of one on my way home, what looks like an old picnic area. What a picturesque scene!
However, this area is currently a source of contention. The property used to belong to a now-defunct cult, and was donated to the town. The leaders of the town are trying to decide what to do with the buildings. Some say they should be salvaged, and have value. Others say it would be too expensive to salvage them and they should be torn down. Still others, who were former members of the cult, have trauma from their experiences and feel that the buildings should be torn down because they are representative of very negative emotions.
Objects can carry so much weight for us as humans. They can have emotional value, physical value, or trigger pain responses. Or they can bring us a moment of joy, as the building did on my pretty hike. The important thing to remember is that which we are told in 2 Corinthians. No matter how much value or weight an object has to us here on earth, it will eventually pass away. Thank God for the unseen things and the eternal Heaven that is prepared for us. Thank God for sending Jesus His son to make a way for us! Amen!
