I suspect that every country on the Earth has its own unique and sometimes strange, weather. When I lived in Florida, you could almost set your watch by the afternoon rain, where it would pour down hard for about 15 minutes, and then go back to a normal sunny day. Or in Colorado, where the weather swing of 60 degrees in a 12 hour period is not all that uncommon. Even when I lived in Houston, Texas, I could watch incredible thunderstorms for hours on end. Yes, weather isn’t just a topic of conversation, it’s an important part of our lives.
Our image for consideration is of “snow rollers.” How do we get these odd things? Some wet snow, some dry snow, a gentle wind and a slope! They look out of place and kinda jarring. It is kinda odd, but there is a reason behind it.
What has been the “odd weather” in your life? Not literally! What are some dynamics in your life that seem to be odd or out of place? How did it get that way? What can you do about it?
Those questions may seem overwhelming, but I bet they are less so than some of the life challenges that you have before you. Sometimes people that are healthy all of a sudden deal with significant health issues. Sometimes people that are stable financially have huge money problems. Sometimes people that have a strong faith in God find themselves asking many questions and struggling with doubts.
These things may seem out of place, and definitely jarring, but there is a reason behind it. We may never know what those reasons are, but we know that God is with us. In Matthew 16, we read,
And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them, “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”
English Standard Version
We have a God that not only rules over all creation, including weather, but He also reigns in our lives. He knows what causes you worry and stress, He knows what seems odd and out of place. But we thank Him for His Son, our Lord Jesus, because He makes sense of the world we live in and the life we lead.
