“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24 English Standard Version
If you live in, or around, Colorado Springs I am sure that one of your favorite roads to drive is Woodmen Road. Well, in reality you probably try to avoid taking Woodmen at all costs, because of an extensive construction project that has been taking place for several years. The work they are doing is good for travelers, although it may be frustrating right now. Houses (or roads for that matter) aren’t built overnight, especially if you want them to be made of the best quality.
These construction workers are making sure they are laying a solid foundation that will hold up in heavy traffic for a long period of time. This will lessen the cost of major repairs as the road is being used. Our faith is a little bit like this, it needs a strong foundation in order to stand the tests of hardship and time. Our faith is not perfected overnight. We must always be growing in our faith, building it up stronger and stronger, day in and day out. How do we do this? We live in God’s Word. We do not just read the Bible merely to see what kind of life we should live, but to actively pursue a closer relationship with God every single day. When we do this, we not only hear the Word of God, we start to live the Word of God, and doing what is asked of us as God’s people.
God is our surest foundation, he will never crumble, and he will never fall. Let us build our faith on the sure foundation of the Triune God, and our faith will prevail over the evils, and perils, of this world. I love these lyrics from one of my favorite hymns A Mighty Fortress is Our God, “A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing…”
