Go, and Make Disciples

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…”
Matthew 28:19a New International Version
Many of us Christians have a foot problem. We sit in our churches on Sunday morning hearing the Word of God tell us to “Go, and make disciples of all nations” and then….. we just don’t go. We hear the command of Jesus to go and make disciples, but our feet don’t move. We open our church doors and advertise our services and prepare for those who might come to hear the Good News of Jesus, but we don’t venture outside the walls to where people live and work and play.
How shall they hear if we don’t go to speak to them, to offer them the Word of Life, to tell them of the love of Jesus? How will they ever come into the fellowship of believers if we don’t first go to them? Remember the story of the wedding banquet invitation in Matthew 22? The king invited many to come, but when some of them refused, he sent his servants to “go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.” The Heavenly King has prepared a great celebration of His Son for all those who would accept His invitation.
Will you go and invite all to come to Jesus? Will you go and offer people the Word of Life? Will you go and urge all to put their faith in our Lord? If you do not go, then who shall go? When Isaiah heard the Lord say, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”, Isaiah answered, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8) Will you go?
Dear Lord, forgive me for not obeying your command to go and make disciples of all nations. Thank you that you have offered me the Word of Life. Open my eyes to see those to whom I might go. Amen.
