“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!”
Psalm 143:10 English Standard Version
Have you ever looked at your to-do-lists or calendar and thought, “yikes!”? We so often find ourselves sucked into the world with its endless demands, desires and distractions. This trio can quickly mess with our identities, steal our time and lead us astray if not kept in check. As we are well aware, the world will always push for more. More streaming, subscribing and social media to be kept current; more investment at school, work or activities to prove yourself; more “stuff” to keep up with whoever those Jones people are. It’s noisy out there, isn’t it? It can be overwhelming…
That’s why it’s important to enable a hard reset every day (at least). That rest, solitude, green pasture… It’s important. Everything we are and do starts and ends with our Good Shepherd. He gives us real rest, true contentment and perfect peace. He also enables us to live our lives differently in order to further the Gospel message. To do that though, we must prioritize our time accordingly.
At the top of the checklist and the beginning of the day’s agenda should be time in the Word, in prayer and in worship. All else is secondary. When we seek the Lord and spend time in His presence, He reveals to us His good and perfect plan. When we delight in Him, our hearts know we have all we need. He grants us a discerning mind and the right tools to be an influencer for good. It’s then that we can effectively carry out the great commission, no matter what we have on our agenda. Thy will be done!
