What’s important at the end of the day?

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Psalm 46:10 English Standard Version

What is the first thing you think about when you wake up, or when you go to sleep? Is there something everyday that seems to take top priority in your mind, something that matters more than anything else? Something that brings you a great deal of stress, or that maybe brings you immense joy? How much time is spent during the day worrying or looking forward to that thing? Probably too much.

I am in the middle of an intensive Greek course at seminary and it is hard work. It is a challenging, enjoyable, stressful course. Class time and studying now takes up most of my days, and even my weekends. This is not a bad thing. I believe it is great that this seminary takes learning the original languages of the Bible seriously so that pastors are prepared to accurately and faithfully proclaim God’s Word to His people.

My professor said something that got almost everyone’s attention. He said that we’re going to spend a lot of time cramming for tests and worrying about grades and getting all the technicalities of the language memorized, but that at the end of the day, Jesus is still Lord. When we meet our Savior one day we aren’t going to be asked to parse verbs or remember paradigms.

Whatever you worry about, whatever you look forward to most, as important as it may be, remember that Jesus is still Lord no matter what. Look at your situation from the perspective that Jesus is your Savior, He died for your sins. He paid the ultimate price that you could not pay. He is risen so that death is defeated, and you will also rise one day.

It’s all about Jesus. Take comfort in this.
