Overwhelming Grace
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16, English Standard Version
Recently, my son has felt the need to share with me everything he’s ever done wrong. I don’t know what prompted his confessions, but it has caused me to remember things that I did wrong when I was younger. Some things I’d completely forgotten about until now, and some things I’ve never told anyone. As my son keeps adding more things to his list so do I. How can the sin just keep coming? When you list it and add it all together, it feels as heavy and overwhelming as the clouds in this picture hanging overhead.
I’ve said before that being a parent has made me understand God’s love for us in a new way. Any time my children tell me something that they’ve done wrong, it hurts. It’s disappointing. But stronger than those feelings are the gratitude I feel that they’re telling me about it, and even more so, the love I have for them. Though it might hurt me, I know they’re hurting too, and I just want desperately for them to know how much they’re loved.
Parents may love their children, but God’s love for us is even stronger than that! He loves us so much that He sent His Son to redeem us. I pray today that when we feel overwhelmed by sin, we remember to draw close to God and feel overwhelmed by His grace. He loves us all the time, no matter what. We are forgiven! Amen!
