Partial Understanding
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12, English Standard Version
We were driving through the Wildcat Hills in western Nebraska recently. We went from clear, straight paths to a curved, misty climb in a matter of seconds. I grabbed my phone to snap the photo (I was not driving, btw). What a mysterious and unpredictable thing – the weather. Often, we watch meteorologists make attempts to predict patterns. We read about past cycles and tap the apps that will give us the most probable outlooks. Even then, we’re often sideswiped by surprises.
It sounds a lot like our journeys this side of heaven. In our verse today, Paul talks about our limited vantage point. We won’t see the clear, full picture. Not yet. But the good news is that fog will one day dissipate. Until then, no matter what the future holds, we trust our Good Guide to lead us home.
