“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”
Psalm 113:3 English Standard Version
Our Creator God is high above us and made all things and governs them all. He is powerful and all knowing and eternal. He demands our worship and praise, for we owe Him our lives and all that we have. We praise Him for His mighty power!
But the Lord is not content to be far above us in power and might. He looks down upon us in our sin and misery and pain and He comes to us. “He raises up the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap.” (Psalm 113:7) He sent His own Son who became one of us that He might redeem us from our lowly state. He died upon a cross, suffering all things that we should have suffered that we might be set free from sin. And our Lord Jesus was raised on the third day that we too might be lifted up, righteous in Him, to be in the presence of God forever.
So we not only praise God for His might and power, but we also praise Him for His grace and mercy. He is a God who with the whole universe to govern, has come down from the heavens and cares about you and me. Praise God that He is mindful of us and loves us in Jesus! Amen!
“God didn’t give me much
Just a constant Companion
Just an end to my strife
Just a Son who died for me
Just a promise of life.”
