“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits –”
Psalm 103:1-2 NIV
We just recently celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. We celebrated the greatest gift we could ever receive — eternal life with our loving Savior and the Creator of the World. Not only do we rejoice in this, but we also rejoice in the knowledge that Jesus chose to dwell among us. He chose to become human, to walk among us, and to experience this messy life just as we do. He can sympathize with our experiences, not just empathize. He truly understands what we are walking through, the mountains we are climbing, and the struggles we are fighting through.
What a fitting time of year and time in our lives to lift our eyes to our God. Our response should be praise, just as we see David doing throughout the Psalms. When things get hard or we begin to lose hope or forget our way, our response should be praise. Praising the Lord with all we have. Praising the Lord with our heart, our mind, and our soul. Praising Him in song and thought and action.
Praise the Lord for all He has done – the sacrifices He has made, the miracles He has performed, and the work He has done in our lives. Praise the Lord for all He will do – the life we will live forever with Him, the doors He will open in our lives, and the changes He will bring into our hearts. Praise the Lord for who He is – a loving Father, a wise Shepherd, a guiding Light, a comforting Friend, a strong Fortress, and the countless other attributes He exudes.
Lord Jesus, Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice and the involvement you have in our lives. Thank you for walking among us and for coming to earth to be with us. I ask that you lift our eyes to you always. Help us to praise you in all circumstances, praising you for what you have done, what you will do, and for who you are. We love you and praise you with all our heart, mind, and soul. Amen
