“…making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the Gospel…”
Ephesians 6:18b-19 English Standard Version
Sometimes we are afraid to ask others to pray for us, either because we don’t want to appear selfish or needy, or perhaps because we don’t want to be vulnerable. But Saint Paul has no problem asking for prayer for himself, asking that supplication be made for all believers and also for him. He especially asks for words and boldness in proclaiming the Good News of Jesus.
It is a privilege to pray for others. In my many conversations as a pastor, often people let me know their needs and I pray with them. It is especially important to pray for others that they might have boldness in their witness in proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior… We need encouragement and support as we seek to follow Jesus and share Him with other people.
God, in His great mission to this world, sent His only Son to die and rise for us. Through His death and resurrection, you and I are saved from our sins and given eternal life. Now the Lord sends us out on His mission to be ambassadors to a broken world that needs His reconciling grace. And so we must support one another to boldly speak His Word to all people. Let us pray for one another…
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending our Lord Jesus into this world to save us. Make us faithful to pray for one another as we boldly bear witness of your mercy and forgiveness. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
