Stop the Spinning

You can listen to today’s devotion by clicking this SoundCloud link.

Pain can cause some people’s minds to spin, sometimes to the point of paralysis or not being able to take forward action. When we experience pain, all we want is for it to stop.

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Romans 8:18 English Standard Version

The truth is that pain will never end until we die. There is usually respite from pain, but we live on earth, not heaven so pain is part of the package while we’re here.

“For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places.”
Matthew 24:7 ESV

So how do we navigate the pain and stop the spinning? By finding peace that only God can give.

“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7 ESV

So how do we find that peace that God provides? Surrender the pain and receive peace from God.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
John 14:26-27 ESV

Worship until you feel the peace that only God can give. This is the power of worship, but be prepared, there may be times that it takes a while to stop your mind from spinning. Just keep worshipping; our churning mind will stop as we surrender our thoughts and pick up His. Eventually as we worship, God’s presence falls on us and with His presence, comes the peace we are searching for to remedy the pain and stop the spinning.
