Reflections are powerful, but they are not perfect. When I took this picture the air was fairly calm with a slight hint of a breeze. That hint of a breeze distorted the reflection of the trees on the pond. This distortion is a reminder that what we see on the surface of the water isn’t the real thing. The real trees lay above the surface.

We are called to imitate God, not be God.

The temptation to be like God goes back to the Garden of Eden. It is this powerful temptation to be like God that gets humanity into trouble. The desire to be God, rooted in sin, is much different from the desire to imitate God.

We live at the foot of the cross. It is here that we’re forgiven for our attempts to be God, and it is here that the Holy Spirit empowers us to imitate God, to be like the reflection on this pond. We will never reach perfection on this planet, yet we strive to imitate him.

We can imitate his nature to love, heal and forgive. When we imitate God we’re pointing to him as our actions reflect the nature of God.

I took this picture because I loved how the rippled water reflected the trees. May people see God reflected in how we live our lives.
