Rooted and Grounded and Thriving

In Christ we are secure and made to thrive no matter the storm.

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord
and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.
They are like trees planted along a riverbank,
with roots that reach deep into the water.
Such trees are not bothered by the heat
or worried by long months of drought.
Their leaves stay green,
and they never stop producing fruit.”
Jeremiah 17:7-9 New Living Translation

We’ve had a couple of windstorms in Colorado Springs lately that have caused a lot of damage, mostly by toppling pine trees and taking down power lines. Since we’ve also been in a drought for a while, the pine trees’ roots have lacked critical moisture and have not grown into the soil but outward, so the roots are not as deep as they should be to withstand high winds. This tree sits on the bank of a lake and has plenty of water to nourish its roots. It’s held up well and seems it can continue to endure most anything that potentially could destroy it while also providing comforting shade.

We face a lot of pressures and storms in our short lives on earth. So many threats come our way. The only sure way to survive these enemies to our faith, hope and peace is to be watered with the word of God. And we are nourished by the Holy Spirit as we pray for strength and courage daily.

God made us to drink in the living water of His Son through His word. He wants us to not only survive the times of drought but to thrive and produce amazing fruit for His kingdom. Don’t neglect to water your souls so you may have an overflowing abundance of water to offer others who thirst for Christ’s living water.
