Running on Empty

Renew your strength!

It may stress some readers out to hear that I often allow my fuel gauge to run quite low before I stop to refuel. It is not due to lack of planning, or because I enjoy cutting things close, but because my life moves at an incredibly quick pace and scheduling time to stop and fuel up can be quite tricky. The majority of my time is spent driving people around, and stopping to put gas in the car sets our schedules behind.

However, I do make time to take care of the car. I have never run completely out of gas, and I make sure to maintain my car. After all, I need my vehicle to keep my family on track.

Other, more personal, gauges get uncomfortably low sometimes as well. Lack of sleep, quiet time, Bible study, fun, and worship (to name a few) can push us close to a breakdown.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.  Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:28-31 New International Version

I am thankful that we always have a place to renew our strength. Our LORD does not get tired. Even better, He is an eternal well of everything we need. If we depend on others to meet our needs, and fill us up, they have a finite limit to what they can offer. Our friends, family, and spouses may want to give more, but they can only do so much before their own well is depleted.

Fellow sojourner, if you are weary, go to the One source to fill up. Make it a regular part of your maintenance.
