Scars

Through Christ’s wounds we are healed and our scars have purpose.

“He personally carried our sins
in his body on the cross
so that we can be dead to sin
and live for what is right.
By his wounds
you are healed.”
I Peter 2:24 New Living Translation

There isn’t anyone alive today who doesn’t have at least one scar somewhere on their body. Scars point to previous trauma. Childhood mishaps, surgeries and accidents can result in scars. We may have small ones no one can see but us, or huge noticeable ones that may interfere with quality of life. Many fade over time, but some require cosmetic surgery to minimize their appearance.

We likely also carry internal scars. Unkind words, traumatic experiences, our own guilt over sin, great loss or a loved one’s death can leave internal wounds that can be even more serious than external ones. If we don’t act so they heal properly, they can leave lasting scars that threaten to overwhelm us and overtake our lives, our peace and our purpose.

Allowing Jesus to manage our wounds is the only way internal scars will fade. After all, He is completely familiar with scars. His body was covered with them. The horrific wounds that led to his death healed our wounds and secured for us an abundant life on earth and eternal life in heaven. If you have any untreated wounds, take them to your Savior who can heal you and then use your scars to help heal others who are suffering. His scars carry healing, hope and peace.
