Searching for His Light

by Desiree Bustamante

God will always light up our inner darkness when we trust Him with our prayers.

“I could ask the darkness to hide me
and the light around me to become night—
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.”
Psalm 139:11-12 New Living Translation

Whenever there is an opportunity to see a special alignment of planets, a comet, asteroid shower or the Northern Lights, people will brave dangerous cold, extreme darkness and late hours to get a glimpse of a rare phenomenon. My niece captured this during a recent appearance of the Aurora Borealis, watching in the dark for a long time. But on this occasion not much appeared in the night sky, only a quick burst of light before the heavens were dark again.

When we seek answers to our most pressing prayers, it can feel like we are living in darkness far too long. We keep searching for a light in our circumstances, hoping God will reveal a spectacular answer to our situation. Our faith in His promises may diminish when answers to prayer seem remote. We long for God to pour out His soothing comfort and encouragement over us.

Finally, a light emerges, overtaking our gloom, and we joyfully stand in the magnificent presence of God shining on us, unfolding His plans and replenishing our souls with hope. Unlike a celestial event on earth, His light never fades into the universe. It endures forever and abides everywhere!

When despair settles into your heart, ask God to unveil His light of hope to sustain you while you wait for His perfect answers to your prayers. He loves you and will never leave you in the dark.
