Who will rescue me?

“But I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members.”
Romans 7:23
“Something is not working correctly,” I told my septic technician. “The alarm is going off on the system and I don’t know what all these lights mean!” Something was definitely wrong, but I did not know what it was, and I sure did not know how to fix it!
Have you ever felt that way about your heart? Something is definitely wrong, but you don’t really know what is wrong, and you sure don’t know how to fix it. That is what Saint Paul is saying in today’s Bible passage; sin is waging war against his good intentions in his heart, holding him prisoner to his evil desires, and he does not know how to fix this “sin problem.”
Sin is holding me captive, and I can’t break out of its hold on me. I need outside help. Can anyone help me?
Yes, the very next verse says, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God – through Jesus Christ our Lord!” I cannot fix my sin problem, but Jesus can. I cannot rescue myself, but Jesus can. That’s what He did on Good Friday. He conquered sin and death and hell, He broke me free from the sins that held me captive, and set me free to serve Him in righteousness and peace.
My frantic call to my septic technician brought help, and freed me from my quandary and panic. One cry to the Lord Jesus, and He will rescue you for all eternity, for He is your Redeemer and Savior. Praise God that He answers every call!
