One of my favorite poems is Robert Frost’s “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening.” It gives insight into a man on a journey and a momentary reprieve from the pace of the trip. If you have ever been on a long journey, you know how easy it is to lose yourself in thought.

With a bit of inspiration from Robert, here is an image of snowy woods on a bright midmorning. This image was taken by my wife, and I absolutely love the way the crisp white frost breaks up the strong dark lines of the trunks and gives way to the changing blue sky. This view is more or less what I see out the back of my home, which is a blessing indeed.

Like you, I can have a pretty busy and hectic life. One filled with responsibilities and obligations but also filled with joy and moments of rest. After a long day, arriving back home is a beautiful reward and an opportunity to recover and to relax.

Jesus’ words in John 14:1-6 capture this thought and so much more,

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
English Standard Version

We may not get rest as often as we’d like, and we may not even have a home. But in Jesus, we have a place of belonging. He accompanies us on the journey that is life, and He knows how challenging it can be. He also knows how beautiful it can be! I pray that you find your rest with Jesus, so that you are renewed daily. Until that day when He takes you to His Father’s house, which is a blessing indeed.
