Living Every Moment

“…yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.  What is your life?  For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”
James 4:14 English Standard Version

We knew our granddaughter would only be with us for three days, so I wanted to make every minute count.  Even when we were selling corn under a shade tree I wanted to spend time with Iris for we never know how much time we might have together and I wanted to spend it interacting with her.

It has been truly said that we only take two things out of this life; our relationship with God and our relationship with others.  Should we not spend our time wisely then, investing in our relationship with God and others?  For our life is like “a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”

And so ask God this question every day, “Lord, where would you have me spend my time?”  For this life that we have been given by our Creator is ours to manage for him.  How can I use my time to love others?  How can I use my time to draw closer to Jesus?  How can I use my time to share the Good News of our Savior, a Savior who loves us and gave himself for us?

If you look at how our Lord Jesus used his time, you will see a great example for us.  He used every moment to draw closer to his Father and to share the love and mercy of God with others.  How will you spend your time today?  Investing in your relationship with Jesus and others, or wasting your time on selfish and even destructive pursuits?

Use your time you have been given wisely, as the Lord used his time to be with his Father and to bring the Good News to others. There is so little time!   Amen.
