“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 English Standard Version
Out behind our house, nestled under the shade of pine trees, sits this old farm truck. (Well, if I’m being honest, this is just one of a few old farm trucks!) Its once-bright paint has faded to rust, and, as old farm trucks tend to do, needs some work to get it running properly. This truck has hauled feed for livestock, towed broken vehicles, carried tools and parts, and has more or less been a reliable truck when the chores can’t wait. It is dependable. Trustworthy. Unchanging. Time has a way of aging even the strongest steel. But the image of our truck’s steady presence reminds me of something far greater: the unchanging nature of Jesus Christ.
In a world where everything shifts—technology, culture, relationships, even our own emotions—there is immense comfort in knowing that Jesus never does. He’s not like the weather or the economy. He doesn’t rust. He doesn’t break down. His love, grace, truth, and power remain steadfast. Hebrews 13:8 tells us plainly: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” That means the same Jesus who walked the roads of Galilee, who calmed the storm and wept at the tomb of Lazarus, is the same Savior who walks with you today. His compassion is unchanged. His promises still hold and His salvation still reaches.
Some of us are walking through seasons of deep uncertainty—loss, illness, financial strain, or spiritual drought. But just like that old farm truck, still parked and ready to serve, Jesus remains the solid anchor when everything else feels shaky. You may feel forgotten, outdated, or left out like that old pickup under the tree. But take heart—Jesus never forgets. He doesn’t discard or overlook. And He certainly doesn’t change.
Whatever season you’re in today, trust in the One who never wavers. The same Savior who carried you through before will carry you through again.
